Huh? this is the least publicized, the least important and maybe eventually the least memorable Crosstown Classic series in history. Tickets for Friday's game were going for as low as $14 on Stubhub. There have been years where you couldn't get a brokered ticket for less than $100. This is not a battle or a fight.. it's a skirmish between local militias who don't have weapons.   more ›

Park District Plans To Get Your Kids Active

Make summer plans for your children this summer with the Cary Park District.

Track & Field Skills Camp This camp is for young athletes who would like to learn or improve their skills in track and field. Athletes will focus on warm-up, running form, and learn techniques for long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus, hurdles, relays, and sprint starts. All levels of ability are welcome. Please wear athletic attire, tennis shoes, and bring a water bottle. This camp is for children in grades 3rd – 8th and meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 4 – 27 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the Community Center. Registration is $69 (n/r $104).   Flag Football Make new friends, exercise, and learn the game in a program that focuses on basic mechanics, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun. Trinity Oaks Students Receives High Honors at Science Fair

Two Trinity Oaks Christian Academy students earned the gold level and highest point total at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science fair.

Jonathan March and Shannon Morrison competed along with 1,100 students from across the state at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science fair on Saturday, May 5.  March, who's a seventh grader, was awarded the highest level of gold for his project on the affect of temperature on solar panels. Morrison, who's an eight-grader received the highest point total awarding her best in category for seventh and eighth grade students in Microbiology for her project on the resistance of E. Coli bacteria to chemical and non-chemical based household cleaners.

Children's Theater Company of Cary Presents Dr. Dolittle

Area students brings the classic script to life.

The Cary Park District’s Children’s Theater Company of Cary will host two performances of “Dr. Dolittle” at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at the Fox River Grove Middle School, 401 Orchard Street, Fox River Grove.  The 1976 play is written by Olga Fricker, in which she is the sister-in-law of Hugh Lofting, the author and illustator of the first Dr. Dolittle story.  There are 33 actors ranging from second to eighth grade that have been developing confidence, creativity and working on memorization and listening skills to be a part of the Children’s Theater Company of Cary. The Crystal Lake Rowing Club hosted the Greater Chicago Junior Rowing Championships Saturday. The regatta's purpose is to hold a Chicagoland championship that leads up to the Midwest Junior Rowing Championships and Midwest Scholastic Championships, however out of state programs are welcome as well.

Video: Another Look at 'Homeless in Crystal Lake'

Saturday's SleepOut event will raise funds, awareness for the homeless.

With the McHenry County PADS bringing the third annual SleepOut for Shelter to Crystal Lake this Saturday, we felt that another look at the video of a local homeless man, Steve, was warranted. The video, captured by Robin Pendergrast, shows a brief but strong look at decisions the homeless have to make every day. SleepOut for Shelter will take place this Saturday, May 12, at Immanuel Lutheran School in Crystal Lake. Event participants will spend the night outside in tents, boxes or cars to raise awareness and money. Through the collection of pledges for spending one night outside the comfort of their home, participants will help homeless individuals in their search for shelter and a new beginning. I cut Quinn some slack because for years he was a prominent advocate for consumes rights before finally scoring an elected position. Run for the Arts This Weekend

The 15th Annual Bob Blazier Run for the Arts takes place Sunday morning.

Put your running shoes on and get out to downtown Crystal Lake to support the arts. Sunday morning hundreds of runners and walkers will fill downtown to participate in the 15th Annual Bob Blazier Run For The Arts. The 5k event will take place Sunday, May 6, at Raue Center For The Arts, 26 N. Williams Street. Runners rate is $35 and registration for walkers is $20.
