Huntley firefighters lose one of their own.

Huntley Fire District firefighters are holding their own, trying to do their jobs in the wake of the death of one of their captains, John Winkelman, Thursday in a motorcycle accident. “John was an easy going, level headed, laid back guy who liked to have a good time,” Deputy Chief Ken Caudle said. “He was a practical jokester, he was just a fun guy to be around. He was loved by everybody.” Winkelman, 54, of Margeno, died from the injuries he sustained in the accident on Route 176. He joined the Huntley fire district in January 1988 as a firefighter. With approximately 80 percent of municipalities approving referendums on electric supply aggregation, based on preliminary results, ComEd estimated today that approximately half of residential customers could switch to an alternative retail electric supplier (RES) by the end of the year. Cary voted to give the village authority to negotiate for the supply of electricity for its residential and small commercial retail customers, with 54 percent voting "Yes" on Tuesday, March 20. Voter turnout in Illinois may be the lowest in decades.
Voter turnout in Tuesday’s primary was frustratingly low in McHenry County, at just 19.71 percent of registered voters, according to McHenry County Clerk Katherine Schultz. “It was a very, very bad turnout,” Schultz said. “I don’t know what you do to get people to come out and vote. I’ve never seen voter turnout so low,” Schultz said. Schultz said the state has made it easier for people to vote with early voting, but it hasn’t made a difference. “It is frustrating all the work that is involved and all the work the candidates put into it. According to the Huffington Post, Romney won the Illinois Republican primary Tuesday night, claiming a majority of the state's delegates and moving closer to his party's nomination. Cary residents have granted the village authority to bundle — or aggregate — residential and small retail electric accounts together to buy electricity at a group rate. Barrington Hills resident Leslie Coolidge has won the Democratic nomination to compete against Republican incumbent Peter Roskam for the 6th Congressional district seat.
